Down here at our seaside bed & breakfast we’ve often seen it raining on the close and beautiful mountains of Snowdonia, all while enjoying a glorious day of sunshine. We’ve even seen it snow on the mainland while it’s bone dry where we’re standing, as was the case with the picture at the top of this blog. Wales may be as famous for its rain as it is for its endlessly scenic beauty, but Anglesey definitely seems to get the better end of the stick almost all year round.

There’s some legitimate science behind this particular phenomenon. Anglesey is incredibly unique due to the fact it really does have its very own microclimate, separate from the rest of North Wales. That means that it might be pouring with rain on the mainland, but the sun will be beaming down on Anglesey. Sometimes, the weather even varies considerably from one side of the island to the other – it’s fascinating!

The unique weather has to do with two prominent factors, those being the mountains nearby on the Llŷn Peninsula and the warm current sent eastwards by the Gulf Stream. Anglesey is affected by both, and its separation from the mainland by the Menai Strait only serves to isolate it further.

All of that makes for a holiday location that’s a guaranteed winner when Summer rolls around. You can expect to find sunny beaches, coastal walks, watersports and more – even when the rest of Wales is looking a little overcast.

Glanllyn Bach is a brand new luxury bed & breakfast in Anglesey soon to open sometime in late Spring or early Summer, and it’s the perfect location to take advantage of all the glorious weather that the isle’s microclimate offers. We’re working hard to renovate the property from head to toe, and we can guarantee that it’ll be a perfect stay by the time our guests arrive. You can follow our progress here on our blog, or you can keep an eye on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to see what we’re up to. Hopefully we’ll be seeing you soon!
